The Road To Truth Is Rocky!

Who said the road to finding the truth is straight and smooth? Advise them again, not only is it uncharted, it is rocky as well…

Facts of the matter:

hundreds of millions of pesos missing

1 general down, several others alleged for thievery in their own turf, ex-commander-in-chief not privy at all

a nation polarized by poverty and overpopulation, air, water and garbage pollution on one side and luxury, vanity and avaricious high end lifestyle on the other…

Where do we even dare to begin searching?

We have a legislative body creating so much noise and yet the culprits go scot-free. We have a government repressed by limitations both internal and external. Meanwhile, we have a people enduring hunger while inedible sacks of rotten rice are deemed chicken-feed, overseas contract workers acting as drug mules for drug syndicates, and now three of them are pending execution via lethal injection in China…

How do we digest these news?

Yours truly couldn’t even comprehend how the deceptive Responsible Parenthood Bill squeezed passage in the honorable house of congress, when in fact, it is the the devious Reproductive Health Bill in disguise… And yet, the congressmen are slow to act on their errant fellow lawmaker Ronald Singson, caught carrying a few grams of cocaine in Hongkong, detained, jailed, tried, pleaded guilty and addicted to substance abuse for years, and now awaiting sentence…and the house dilly-dallies…

The road to truth is uncharted, precisely because those who pioneered mapping the road were sidetracked, either incarcerated in jail or silenced forever…

Fortunately, for those who believe  that truth has its own way of revealing itself, all is not lost. There are conspirators who, bothered by that thing called conscience, would opt for truth to set them free… LOL!

The die had been cast… the road, we discover, is there, but gosh, it is terribly rocky!

Don’t worry, my feet are suffering from neuropathy.  I am used to the brain pain… so, I can kick every rock, one by one, just to see the truth. Let’s get to it!

The Week That Was

To begin with, the weather is getting drier. It is so hot that the dust particles fill the air.  This is contrary to mommy’s condition in LA. She says it is so wet and cold out there. And Tita Cora in the East Coast has never had a blizzard so devastating.  Talk about the weather…

While keeping abreast with the situation in Egypt and the local news, I had to attend to my own concerns, and that includes two meetings with Mayor Del de Guzman Monday, re: fixing of my fence. Sigh! He is sending his engineers to take a look at my fence…again…

Tuesday morning comes the shocking news: former Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes took his own life. According to police, he self-inflicted a bullet to the heart, a fatal one, and he did it in front of his mother’s grave in Loyola, Marikina. Sigh! It is tragic that he has to resort to suicide. In Greek, that is called hamartia, or no way out. He is trapped by the brewing senate investigation about corruption in the armed forces. Much had been said about the matter, I only want to inject the truth that if he had done nothing wrong, this would not have happened.

The inquiry of the justice committee in congress about the plea bargaining agreement of the Garcia plunder case proceeds with much ado despite Reyes’ death. The people demands to know where all the centavos had gone to…

As for me, I almost want a reprieve from all these unwholesome news…but I tune in to commentaries every time I do my rounds… I am so thankful for the first ever televised international Philippine soccer game held in Bacolod Wednesday night.  The Azcals won with two precious goals over Mongolia. And the game provided entertainment from all the depressing news…

This week concludes three consecutive hell weeks of long exams. So Tish had the chance to finally circle the oval for exercise yesterday, Friday.  And today, she is with her org, conducting interviews for the aps.

Jean is teaching some deprived children at the Bahay ng Alumni…

There are good news on the side… our Angel is on the family way… Oh dear St. Therese, take care of Angel...

The Prayer of Jabez

In the Bible, the family of Jabez was ill fortune filled. The lineage was like cursed with pain and sorrow. But somewhere in the long line of impoverished beings, Jabez knelt down and prayed. He muttered a one-liner that goes…

Oh God, that you would bless me indeed, enlarge my territory, keep watch over me, keep me away from evil, so that I will not cause pain.

...and God granted Jabez his prayer.

I am praying this utterance now for my family. The storm had caught up with my family in America, and the chill had penetrated the bones.

Weak and vulnerable, Almighty Father, bless my family indeed, enlarge my family spiritually, financially, professionally, healthfully, socially, lovingly, keep watch over each and everyone, keep them away from evil, so that they will not cause pain. Amen.

And yes, that in all things, God may be glorified.

Toy Story

Tish and I just watched the 3rd part of Toy Story, starring Woody and Buzz, and of course, Andy.  Well, Jean and Tish are about the same age as Andy, so they grew up with pretty much the same toy stories… Now that Andy has to go to college, the toys have to find a new home. Some of our toys had been donated to poor orphans, some passed on to Audrey and Julia, but some are still with us. With Toy Story 3 and Jean moving on to the professional world, we would also probably be best looking for new owners for our toys… Sad but somehow there are children out there who need them more. I will ask the girls…

Tell It To The Marines!

There was a marathon hearing at the justice committee of the house of congress yesterday.  The inquiry:  the plunder case of ex AFP comptroller Carlos Garcia which was lowered to direct bribery and money laundering.  An auditor by the name of Heidi Mendoza bravely came out to oppose the decision of the Ombudsman to go on a plea bargaining agreement with Garcia who, at this point in time, would not divulge the name or names of those who stole the soldiers’ funds and the people’s money. Heidi resigned from her job at the Asian Development Bank so that she would not put her employer in jeopardy. But she has a house amortization to honor, a son who fell ill, a daughter to send to school, or simply a  family to take care of… Yet she could not abandon the soldiers in the barracks who fight the insurgents with torn boots and no bullets… Heidi’s cause: a sworn duty that she would give her best to the Filipino whom she serves!

In the same hearing, the former chiefs of staff, who were cordially invited to give light to the allegations of the AFP’s ex budget officer Colonel Robusa that they received ostentatious amount of money by way of tradition, one by one negated the accusation and consequently cleared their names. So said former executive secretary Ermita who also graced the convention to falsify reports that the nudging not to pursue the investigation nor file the findings  came from his office.

And the Ombudsman boldly held her ground that there was not enough evidence for the case of plunder, even swearing to God Almighty to strike dead through lightning flash those who did benefit from this crime. For a moment, many in the house waited if the divine intervention would hit them right then and there. And many breathed a sigh of relief when God gave them second chances.

But what was hair raising was the information that 200 million pesos , supposedly for the paraphernalia of the men in uniform, was missing. And the 2 million dollars given by the United Nations to aid the military was also nowhere to be found.

And Heidi, diligent and workaholic, discovered from 12 balikbayan boxes a single signature that led to a paper chase of fraud in the army’s funds…..

It was perhaps only by Divine Providence that Heidi was blessed with conscience, that she couldn’t sell herself to the devil for all the riches in the world.

So Heidi presented her power point, clearly narrating the missing money trail.  Everyone grasped the simple storyline, a plot criminal enough for plunder.  And she related her case invoking her fears for her family…asking for help and security, begging for support …. for she had exposed herself as the bull’s eye…

So for those who were just concerned about their images tarnished, generals et al, do tell your stories to the marines.
